Vs
The recent standard set by the Food Standard Agency proposes a “TRAFFIC-LIGHT” system to monitor the consumption of unhealthy foods. Does it have a penalty for crossing red lights? The FSA must start working in the root-level. The food industry and 31 percent of the 2600 consumers, who had been consulted on FSA labeling system, were thoroughly confused.
Instead of using the “multiple traffic-light” scheme with red, amber and green to show high, medium and low levels of fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt, it should aim at giving user friendly notes with the food products and about the food to motivate people towards healthy diet. It would be better if it adopts measures to revive the food industry in making health foods as interesting as junk foods. Look at the picture and pick out the healthy and tastier grilled chicken.

We understand the food manufacturer’s lack of excitement in the traffic light scheme: who wants a red light on their unhealthy product?
Couldn’t they create a system to highlight healthy foods? A gold star, properly explained, perhaps might get someone’s attention who is seeking a healthier alternative.
